August 2021 Update

The Pepe Street one lane Bridge in Tairua, (the one that log jams for two hours at a time in Christmas and New Year), has been the subject of an intensive campaign to get it reviewed urgently.

Anne-Stewart Ball, until recently a Tairua Community Board member, has been instrumental in driving this forward, supported by Scott Simpson, Terry Walker, Jean McCann and many others including WRRA. The latest news from Waka Kotahi (NZTA) looks encouraging and we hope to see some positive news by the end of the year on a two lane replacement.

Of course the danger is that the problem will simply move down the road to the next bridge, so in reality we need four bridges replaced. Hikuai, Pepe, Grahams Creek (the three Tairua bridges), as well as Coroglen.
